Abstract:
This data collection is a series of experiments using confocal fluorescence microscopy and RNA FISH to investigate the expression of molecular olfactory receptors (ORs) in the clonal raider ant antenna. Included are experiments in which the antenna olfactory sensory neurons were stained with RNA FISH probes for ORs arranged in genomic tandem arrays or for ORs found as singletons (i.e., not arranged in tandem arrays). These data demonstrate that clonal raider ant olfactory sensory neuron nuclei contain transcripts for multiple ORs from a single tandem array, yet only one is ultimately exported from the nucleus for translation. The collection includes images acquired at confocal resolution and at super-resolution using the AiryScan mode of a Zeiss LSM 900 confocal microscope.
